This is such a profound post on an issue that speaks to my heart.

Form itself is made of Sacred Stuff, it's not just a vessel for the Divine. But because forms are often made by imperfect human beings, the challenge remains: how do you know, until you surrender, which forms carry you closer to the Divine, and which ones will obscure your inner light?

So much suffering has emanated from surrender to human institutions and icons rather than to the Creator of all forms.

Thanks so much for this post.

"Directions and me don't mix" I got such a grin reading that! Knowing the rebel (aka ego) inside of me responding to instructions would start out with an inner, Oh yeah?!? Yet even with the most basic of art techniques learning the 'right' way first frees me to explore it my own way in a much deeper way.
Why then, would I resist the art practices that have specific spiritual practices interwoven into them? but I have! I have been extremely drawn to manuscript and icon writing for years, but have not pursued the learning with any seriousness, because it has felt heavy with responsibility to me. Does that make sense? As though I would have to carry more than technique, I guess, but I love the line in Vladislav’s video where he says they are not trying to prepare students as professional iconographers, "but for those that are seeking the integration of art and religion..." and I would replace religion with spirituality; of course I know this and use all my art processes for this purpose, but can *feel* in in your post and his video clip here. Thanks so much for sharing another rich post of info and imagery Sybil! I may have to join you in ordering this video :)
