The Hildegard of Bingen series (Collection: Mount Holyoke Collage)
Hildegard of Bingen was a 12th century German holy woman who experienced intense visions. Early in her life she had a vision that she was to leave her current convent and found her own. When she denied her vision (God's will) she was stuck down by an illness so intense that she couldn't even be lifted from her bed. As soon as she submitted her will to God's she was miraculously healed. Hildegard's story illuminates for us how our own stubbornness and egotism wounds us. Hildegard went on to become one of the most important female religious & mystical figures of her time.
